“The smallest family will become a thousand people and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time I, the Lord, will make it happen quickly.”
One translation reads, “I the Lord will suddenly do this thing in its time.” —Douay-Rheims Translation
I’m a big proponent of “the process.” After all, I live in a state where arguably the best coach in college football is famous for talking about “the process.”
Transformational, lasting life change — in fact, success in practically every area of life — is almost never the result of a single event. It’s usually the result of a long, sometimes tedious process, that includes the willingness to prepare — to do the right thing, not the easy thing. It includes breakthroughs and setbacks, and, a commitment to stay focused on the things that matter most, regardless.
In one of the best business books of all time, Jim Collins called it “the flywheel effect.” In one of the best books on discipleship ever, Eugene Peterson called it, “a long obedience in the same direction.”
I believe in the process!
But I also believe there are moments when God decides that He is going to accelerate the process!
There are moments when God decides He is going to accelerate the process!
For instance, the book of Nehemiah describes a remarkable event in Israel’s history. The gates and walls of Jerusalem had been in disrepair for decades! But when Nehemiah got a burden, glimpse and vision of rebuilt walls, he left his “cush” job in Persia, traveled 800 miles back to Jerusalem to lead an amazing DIY project on the walls of Jerusalem! Incredibly, after decades of failed attempts, just 52 days later the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt! Wow! Are you kidding me?
That’s divine acceleration!
A special and supernatural grace applied to your life so that things that normally take years — (a significant amount of time) — get done quickly and suddenly.
That’s what Isaiah 60:22 is describing!
Divine acceleration is when God does things FASTER than we thought possible, BETTER than we could have imagined, and, makes us STRONGER in the process!
For instance, maybe you've been praying to get out of debt in the next 5, 10, or 15 years. That’s great! It will require a process! But what if God says, “What if I do it in the next 5 months?”
Maybe you've been praying over a five-year business plan. That’s tremendous! Be diligent. Plan. Execute. That’s what great business leaders do! But what if God totally blows your mind and says, “What if I make it all happen in the next 18 months?”
Maybe you have a two-year plan when it comes to regaining your health! Again, that’s awesome! Develop a healthy eating plan. Start exercising. Get proper amounts of rest. That’s important! But what if God interrupts your plan and says, “What if I heal you completely, miraculously and instantaneously, right now?”
That’s divine acceleration!
We’re so prone to say: “But that’s impossible, God.”
God’s response has already been recorded in His Word: It may be impossible for you and me, but “nothing is impossible for God!” (See Jeremiah 32:17, 27; Luke 1:37; Matthew 19:26; Mark 10:27; Philippians 4:13)
“At the right time I, the Lord, will make it happen quickly.”
By all means, stay committed to the process! Diligence matters! Excellence honors God. It also inspires people! We ought to “work like everything depends on you, but pray like everything depends on God!”
But maybe, just maybe, God has predestined this moment as a moment of divine acceleration for your finances, debt, business, marriage, health, ministry or church!
“The smallest family will become a thousand people and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time I, the Lord, will make it happen quickly.” —Isaiah 60:22
On Saturday, June 24 during my morning devotional time, I believe God gave me that passage as a promise for a2 Church!
I refuse to lower the level of my expectations! I believe that God is going to show up and show out! I believe it’s possible for God do the same kind of work He did in the book of Acts! I believe it’s possible for God to exceed our limited expectations!
I believe that…
When we do what we were made to do,
God does what He has promised to do, and,
what He and He alone can do!
And, sometimes, God does things FASTER than we thought possible! He always does things BETTER than we could have imagined, and, makes us STRONGER in the process!
